Emma He & Maddie McCann are a screenwriting & directing duo based in Brooklyn and Baltimore. They met online during the pandemic but have since taken their relationship IRL, writing/directing (+ producing/editing) various projects for film and television. Their north star is heartfelt comedy that veers into the absurd.
They recently finished their first feature screenplay, Superbloom, a comedy about a wallflower who must transform from outcast to outlaw to afford the nose job of her dreams. Superbloom was selected as a Top 10 Finalist in the 2025 Shore Scripts Feature contest.
MADDIE has managed production and development at SmartLess Media, the media company behind the SmartLess podcast hosted by Jason Bateman, Will Arnett, and Sean Hayes, since the company’s inception in 2022. She is a contributing writer to the ClueLess podcast, hosted by Emmy Award-winning writer Elliott Kalan. She is also the associate producer and video editor for Staying Alive, SmartLess Media’s podcast hosted by Adam Pally and Jon Gabrus. Her previous work experiences include Showtime, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Jax Media, Netflix, and Seeso.
EMMA is a Chinese-American writer-director based in Brooklyn. She tells character-driven stories about ambition, identity, and the absurd tension between self-perception and public performance. Her pilot The Up and Up was selected for the Emerging Writers’ Project, a showcase curated by Emmy-nominated writer Laura Cahill (Hysterical Blindness), with scenes performed by professional actors including An-Li Bogan (The American Society of Magical Negroes, After Yang) and Lily Sheen (The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent).
