Emma He & Maddie McCann are a long-term, monogamous screenwriting & filmmaking duo. They make absurdist comedies about unhinged desire. Their first feature script, Superbloom, was selected for the 2026 Film Independent Screenwriting Lab and was a Top 10 Finalist in the 2025 Shore Scripts Feature Contest. Their short films, I Want To Be You and Musicians Wanted, have screened at festivals including the Chelsea Film Festival and Philadelphia Film Society’s monthly showcase.
MADDIE has managed production and development at SmartLess Media, the media company behind the SmartLess podcast hosted by Jason Bateman, Will Arnett, and Sean Hayes, since the company’s inception in 2022. She is a contributing writer to the ClueLess podcast, hosted by Emmy Award-winning writer Elliott Kalan. She is also the associate producer and video editor for Staying Alive, SmartLess Media’s podcast hosted by Adam Pally and Jon Gabrus. Her previous work experiences include Showtime, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Jax Media, Netflix, and Seeso.
EMMA is a Chinese-American filmmaker from Arizona, based in New York. Her pilot The Up and Up was selected for the Emerging Writers’ Project, a showcase curated by Emmy-nominated writer Laura Cahill (Hysterical Blindness), with scenes performed by professional actors including An-Li Bogan (The American Society of Magical Negroes, After Yang) and Lily Sheen (The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent).
